Anatomy Recall collects nothing that identifies you.
No account, no sign-in, no advertising, no tracking. Since version 1.1 the app sends anonymous usage counts (which screens and study modes get used, never anything that names you, and never what you type, except a search in Explore that found nothing) so it can be improved, as described below. Your study history never leaves your device.
What is stored, and where
Everything the app remembers — which structures you have learned, your review schedule, streak, XP, quiz results and settings — is written to a database inside the app's own container on your device. It is not uploaded anywhere. It is included in your device backup if you back up your iPhone or iPad, and it is deleted when you delete the app.
Network use
The app works fully offline. The 3D models, audio pronunciations and all anatomy content are bundled in the download; nothing is fetched at runtime.
There are two cases where the app makes a network request:
- Anonymous usage analytics (version 1.1 and later). To learn how the app is actually used, the app sends short anonymous events to TelemetryDeck, a privacy-focused analytics service: for example that a study session, tour, exam or lab practical started or finished, how many items it had, how far it got, how many answers were right and how long it took, and how long Explore was open. Each event also carries the app version, device model, operating system version and language. From version 1.1.2 it also records which structure you picked from an Explore search and, only when a search found nothing, the words you searched for (letters and spaces, at most 40 characters), so missing structures can be added. It never includes your name, email address, anything else you type, your study history as a whole, or the advertising identifier. The install is counted with a random identifier that TelemetryDeck hashes before it is stored, so events cannot be traced back to you. Nothing is used for advertising or tracking, sold or shared with data brokers. The Apple TV app does not send analytics.
- The optional AI tutor. By default it runs entirely on your device using Apple Intelligence, and nothing is transmitted. If — and only if — you choose to paste your own Anthropic API key into Settings, your typed question and the name of the structure you asked about are sent to Anthropic's API (
api.anthropic.com) to generate the answer. That is your own key and your own account with Anthropic; their handling of that request is covered by Anthropic's privacy policy. The key is stored on your device only. Remove it from Settings and the app stops sending anything to Anthropic.
The camera (AR mode). On iPhone and iPad, AR mode uses the camera, and on LiDAR devices the depth sensor, to place the 3D body on a surface around you and to follow your hand. All of this is processed on your device; no images, video or depth data are stored or sent anywhere. If you use Record in AR mode, the clip is made by Apple's screen recorder and saved only where you choose.
Tapping a "Source: Wikipedia" link opens Safari, which is governed by Apple's and Wikimedia's own policies.
Children
Anatomy Recall does not collect personal information from anyone, including children; the anonymous usage events above contain none. There is no account, no messaging between users, and no user-generated content shared with anyone.
Your choices
- Delete all study data at any time: Settings → Reset progress.
- Remove the AI key at any time: Settings → clear the API key field.
- Delete the app to remove everything it stored.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published on this page with a new date.
